I have owned 3 nutmeg grinders. None of them has worked as well as this one. It grinds the nutmeg down to the last little bit. The previous two grinders only ground down about 2/3 of the nutmeg and left chunks of nutmeg in my food. I love the slim design and fold over handle as it doesn't take up as much space in the cabinet. I especially appreciate the cover that fits onto the bottom of the grinder that prevents a mess.

The Christmas after receiving the GEFU I love it, as you can see in my review below. But, the next Christmas the grinding handle came loose from the device. In most respects this grinder is well designed, but the swivel handle used when grinding, came off after using the grinder less than 50 times. Specifically the black handle grip came loose from the stainless steel bar connected to the grinder assembly. The design just wasn't made to last. Luckily my neighbor, a retired precision machinist was able to fix the grinder,. He tapped the handle and installing a small flat head bolt thru the metal bar into the handle grip. With out this fix I'd have a piece of junk on my hands. I can't see why this wouldn't be a problem for most owners of this grinder.

My previous review before it broke. This grater is really great. I have only used it to grate nutmeg over eggnog at one Christmas. I heard that fresh nutmeg was so much better than the pre-ground nutmeg, So I bought un-ground nutmeg.and a hand start with. Quickly I knew that my knuckles would be mince meat before Christmas was over. So I looked on-line for a more mechanized way to grate nutmeg. The stores around my home town Temecula/Murrieta Calif. don't have such an animal, so I went on-line and bought the GEFU 34670 nutmeg grater. Now I'm grating nutmeg like a champ with no concern about my knuckles. Only one nutmeg nut goes into the grater business end at a time. The handle holds 4 to 6 nutmeg nuts. I doubt the nuts stay as fresh in the grander handle for Christmas to Christmas storage, as they do in the original bottle. .

This thing has to be looked at as the Mercedes or BMW of nutmeg graters. Its German engineering bears the same relationship to the more common French graters as those cars do to French cars. In other words, I find most other nutmeg graters, nearly all of French origin or using French critical parts, to be very frustrating whereas this one simply grates the nutmeg with no fuss. And they've even put a cap on the bottom so you don't get nutmeg gratings all over wherever you sit it after use (I used to sit my old grater in a recycled jar lid).

Great grater! Also have the Peugeot and this is much better. Easier to load the nutmeg and a finer grate.

I've used 10-15 nutmeg graters over the years (think eggnog). This is without a doubt the best one I've ever used. It is very high quality, easy to use, and produces an amazing fine grated nutmeg. I am extremely happy with it and have purchased a couple as presents for family. About the only thing I can complain about is the bottom of the unit, which is used to cover the output blades, was initially difficult to remove and we were confused by it. But I'm nitpicking. I've seen the price for it fluctuate as it goes in and out of stock from various venders but it is worth the wait.

Really cool device just a fascinating invention seems like it will last a lifetime also. Very cool idea how that has the spring loaded storage container and just everything about it is really cool

Highly recommend, well worth the price. We grate nutmeg every morning for our oatmeal. We started out with a microplaner and then, after many skinned knuckles, we bought an inexpensive "acrylic" grater, which was ok. But it was frustrating to refill and just meh when it came to turning the crank - a crude tool that was not a joy to use. We've been using this grater every day for almost a year - and are still thrilled with the purchase. It's thoughtfully designed (fold up crank, cap for the bottom so nutmeg dust isn't all over our spice drawer, easily-accessible storage for 4+ whole nutmegs, etc). The grinder is powerful but turning the crank is effortless & smooth -- no "sticking" like with our previous inexpensive grinder. The particles of nutmeg are quite fine - not as fine as the "dust" that the microplaner produced, but plenty tiny enough for any recipe.

Though it is a little expensive I am glad I bought this. I've used it for several years and just bought another for my sister.
--Needed something easier for grating nutmeg than a simple plane as my fingers are weak/carpal tunnel.
--This is smooth, nicely designed, very sharp grater that lets you use every bit of a nut
